"Epigenetic and respiratory diseases"
Epigenetic changes are not correlated with DNA sequence but with reversible post-translational modifications including histone acetylation, methylation and hosphorylation modulating gene expression in different cell types. Impaired epigenetic processes can increase the risk of development of several diseases, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and lung cancer. The expression and activity of many enzymes modulating epigenetic changes are impaired in the lower airways of patients with these respiratory diseases.

"The impact of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) infection on lung development in pediatric age"
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common infection in newborns particularly when preterm (≤35 weeks' gestation) representing the most important cause of acute bronchiolitis in children worldwide. Many children with previous RSV infection can develop respiratory diseases later in their life, this may be correlated to an impaired lung development induced by the RSV infection through alterations in lung microbiota, neural pathways and lower airways remodelling.
