David Moens

David Moens obtained his master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at KU Leuven in 1996. After research stays at ESTEC (NL) and Universität Stuttgart (D), he obtained a PhD in Mechanical Engineering in 2002, also at KU Leuven. In 2003, he was awarded a post-doctoral position of the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO). As of 2008, he is professor at campus De Nayer in Belgium, since 2014 as professor within the KU Leuven department of Mechanical Engineering, where he currently is principal instructor of several bachelor, master’s and advanced master courses at the faculties of Engineering and Engineering Technology. He is head of the Reliable and Robust Design research group, supervising about 10 PhD students and several projects on uncertainty quantification (UQ), mainly focusing on UQ in numerical finite element models and model validation. He (co-)authored over 50 journal papers in peer-reviewed international journals and over 150 scientific papers in international conferences. He is general conference chair of the international conference on Uncertainties in Structural Dynamics (USD), Leuven, and is also active member in several international scientific organisations and commissions (AIAA NDA-TC (US), editorial board of Mechanical Systems & Signal Processing, executive committee of the Belgian National Committee on Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (BNCTAM)).
